Specialist, Patient Safety - Ministry of Public Health, Qatar

Key Responsibilities and Duties
The incumbent will be entrusted with a range of vital responsibilities, expected to include, but not be limited to:
- Policy Development & Implementation: Contributing to the formulation, development, and updating of national policies, procedures, and standards related to patient safety, ensuring their alignment with global best practices.
- Incident & Risk Analysis: Investigating patient safety incidents and near misses, conducting root cause analyses to identify systemic gaps, and proposing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Monitoring patient safety performance indicators across healthcare facilities, and preparing analytical periodic reports for risk management and assessing the effectiveness of improvement programs.
- Capacity Building & Awareness: Designing and implementing training and awareness programs for healthcare practitioners and administrators on patient safety principles and practices, such as correct patient identification, effective communication, and infection prevention.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Working closely with various departments within the Ministry and with quality and patient safety managers in hospitals and health centers to ensure the implementation of unified strategies.
- Compliance with Standards: Ensuring healthcare practices comply with accredited local and international standards, such as those from the Joint Commission International (JCI) or the World Health Organization.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
To be a qualified candidate for this critical role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Hospital Administration, or Quality and Patient Safety. A Master's degree in a patient safety or healthcare quality-related field will be a strong advantage.
- Work Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 3 to 5 years in the field of patient safety, quality management, or risk management within a healthcare setting (hospital, regulatory body, health consultancy).
- Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of patient safety principles and frameworks (e.g., WHO framework).
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex health data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to prepare professional reports and presentations.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO) and healthcare accreditation standards.
- Professional Certifications: Holding recognized professional certifications in patient safety or quality (e.g., CPPS, CPHQ) will be a significant advantage.
