Job Description
The Welding Inspector will be assigned to an industrial or construction project site operated by the company. The core responsibilities will focus on ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in all welding operations associated with the project. The inspector will work within the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team and be directly responsible for field inspection and documentation review.
Key Expected Responsibilities:
- Conduct Visual Testing (VT) and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on weld joints in accordance with approved standard specifications (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).
- Review and prepare inspection reports, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and Procedure Qualification Records / Welder Performance Qualifications (PQR/WPQ).
- Monitor on-site welding activities to ensure compliance with specified safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with project engineers, welding supervisors, and technicians to address any non-conformities or defects identified.
- Verify that all materials and welding equipment meet the required specifications.
- Maintain accurate and clear records for all inspection and testing activities.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
This position requires highly qualified candidates with proven practical experience in welding inspection within industrial environments.
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: A university degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Materials) or a technical diploma in Welding Technology or related fields.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of internationally recognized certifications in welding inspection and non-destructive testing is a fundamental requirement. The most sought-after certifications include:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) from the American Welding Society (AWS).
- Certifications in NDT methods (e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT) from recognized bodies such as ASNT (Level II minimum).
- Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in welding inspection, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial construction sectors.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of international welding codes and specifications (ASME Section IX, API 1104) and industrial safety standards.
- Soft Skills: Accuracy, strong attention to detail, excellent communication and analytical skills, and the ability to work under pressure in various field environments.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English, both written and spoken (essential). Knowledge of Arabic is considered a significant advantage.
