Want to learn how to assess the sustainability of cities? This is the course for you! In this course, you will be equipped with the concepts, and tools to conduct a sustainability assessment of cities. This course is a hands-on course. Each week offers you a set of videos, reading material, and exercises - you will perform a sustainability assessment yourself. We start by introducing you to the key concepts of sustainability and sustainability frameworks. Then, you will become familiar with key sustainability issues in cities: Energy, Mobility, Housing and Infrastructure. Then we dig into the method itself. You will learn (i) the building blocks of Sustainability assessment – the systemic, normative and procedural aspects; (ii) how to select pertinent indicators for your Sustainability Assessment and how to put together an Influence Matrix using the selected indicators; and (iii) how to conduct a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis. And finally, we will teach you the basics of policymaking and how sustainability assessments can be an important element in framing sustainability policy. 3b
