The GPA on a 4.0 scale is the most widely used system in American universities and many international institutions. It is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all results, and dividing by total credit hours.
| Letter | Points | Percentage | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ / A | 4.0 | 90-100% | Excellent |
| A- | 3.7 | 85-89% | Very Good+ |
| B+ | 3.3 | 80-84% | Good+ |
| B | 3.0 | 75-79% | Good |
| B- | 2.7 | 70-74% | Above Average |
| C+ | 2.3 | 65-69% | Average+ |
| C | 2.0 | 60-64% | Average |
| C- | 1.7 | 55-59% | Below Average |
| D+ | 1.3 | 50-54% | Poor+ |
| D | 1.0 | 45-49% | Poor |
| F | 0.0 | < 45% | Fail |
Multiply each course grade by its credit hours, sum all products, then divide by total credits. Example: A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and B (3.0) in a 4-credit course gives GPA = (4×3 + 3×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43
Above 3.5 is excellent, ideal for top scholarships. 3.0-3.49 is very good, acceptable for most master's programs. 2.5-2.99 is good. 2.0 is the minimum graduation requirement at most universities.
The 4.0 system is most widely used globally (US, Europe, most Arab universities). The 5.0 system is primarily used in Saudi universities. You can convert between them using our GPA converter tool.
