Romania Became a Full Schengen Member From January 1, 2025

Full practical Schengen membership changes short-stay logistics, but it does not remove the long-stay-visa then residence-permit logic for long-term migration.

🇷🇴 Romania

The significance of this update is that some applicants confuse Schengen membership with long-term residence rights. In Romania, short movement now operates under the full Schengen framework, but work, study, and long stay still run through a long-stay visa and later residence procedures with IGI.

For Arab nationals, that means easier short travel does not automatically equal easier long-stay migration. Proper planning should keep the two tracks separate.

Land-border checks were lifted with and between Romania and Bulgaria from January 1, 2025.
