Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The appointed Consultant will assume a leadership role within the Paediatric Nephrology department, responsible for delivering the highest standards of diagnostic and therapeutic care. Key responsibilities include:
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conducting comprehensive clinical evaluations and diagnosing a wide spectrum of kidney and urinary tract disorders in children and infants. This includes acute and chronic kidney failure, nephrotic syndromes, complex urinary tract infections, and congenital anomalies.
- Treatment Planning: Designing and implementing comprehensive, individualized treatment plans for each patient. This may involve medication management, nutritional recommendations, supportive therapy, and the initiation of dialysis schedules when necessary.
- Specialized Procedures: Overseeing and performing paediatric kidney biopsies and interpreting their results in collaboration with pathology departments. Supervising dialysis programmes (haemodialysis and peritoneal) for children and monitoring post-kidney transplant patients.
- Leadership and Education: Providing mentorship, supervision, and training to medical residents and students within the department. Participating in continuous medical education activities and developing clinical protocols to ensure adherence to global best practices.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with specialists from other disciplines such as paediatric urology, nutritionists, social workers, and psychologists to provide integrated, child and family-centered care.
- Quality and Compliance: Contributing to quality assurance and improvement initiatives, case reviews, and maintaining strict adherence to the hospital's accredited safety and medical ethical standards.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for this senior role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications: A Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree, followed by a recognized postgraduate specialization in Paediatrics, and subsequently a superspecialty Fellowship or Board Certification in Paediatric Nephrology from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: The applicant must hold a valid medical license from their country of origin. Preference will be given to candidates with a valid Saudi license or those eligible to obtain one from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
- Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-fellowship experience working as a specialist in Paediatric Nephrology, with a proven track record of independent consultancy practice and managing complex cases.
- Skills: Exceptional diagnostic and clinical skills. Strong leadership abilities and decision-making skills under pressure. Excellent communication and collaborative skills to interact with young patients, their families, and a multidisciplinary medical team. Proficiency in English is essential, and knowledge of Arabic is a significant advantage.
