Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The appointed Geriatrician Specialist will provide comprehensive and specialized medical care to elderly patients. With a growing focus on enhancing the quality of life for the aging population in Qatar, this role is of critical importance. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Comprehensive Assessment & Diagnosis: Conducting in-depth geriatric assessments, considering the complex interplay of multimorbidity, functional decline, and psychosocial factors unique to older adults.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Developing and implementing integrated care plans for managing chronic conditions prevalent in the elderly, such as dementia (Alzheimer's and others), osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and sensory impairments.
  • Medication Management: Reviewing and optimizing medication regimens (Deprescribing) to avoid adverse drug reactions and polypharmacy issues, which are more common and dangerous in this demographic.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Working closely with other specialist physicians, specialized nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and dietitians to deliver patient-centered, coordinated care.
  • Long-Term Care Planning: Providing counsel to patients and their families regarding care options, including functional ability, home safety, and advance care planning.
  • Commitment to Quality Standards: Contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives for geriatric care and adhering to international clinical protocols and guidelines.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

To be eligible for this premier opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Possession of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognized university.
  • Specialization & Certification: Completion of a recognized residency program in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, followed by a board-certified Fellowship in Geriatrics.
  • Licensing: Must hold a valid medical license from the country of primary qualification. Preference will be given to candidates with a valid Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) license or who are eligible to obtain one.
  • Experience: Proven post-fellowship work experience of at least 3 to 5 years specifically in the field of Geriatric Medicine. Experience in reputable hospitals or geriatric care centers is a strong advantage.
  • Personal Skills: Exceptional communication and listening skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to explain complex medical conditions to patients and families in a clear and reassuring manner.
  • Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is a significant advantage for communicating with a broader patient and family base.
