- Planning and Execution: Developing detailed lift plans, including comprehensive risk assessments and method statements, prior to the commencement of any lifting activity.
- Direct Supervision: Leading and supervising the lifting team (banksman, crane operator, riggers) on-site to ensure strict adherence to the approved plan and procedures.
- Safety First: Ensuring all lifting operations are carried out in compliance with international best practices and the highest industry standards, with a paramount focus on accident and injury prevention.
- Equipment Inspection: Verifying that all lifting equipment and appliances (cranes, slings, chains, hoists) are thoroughly inspected, maintained, and certified for use prior to any operation.
- Communication and Coordination: Acting as the key liaison between project management and the field lifting crew, and coordinating with other departments such as engineering and operations.
- Training and Awareness: Ensuring all lifting team members are competent, trained on correct procedures, and promoting a strong safety culture within the workforce.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of all lifts, equipment inspection reports, certification documents, and any incidents or near-misses.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To be eligible for this vital role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, or Safety Engineering) is a strong advantage.
- Mandatory Certification: Must possess a valid certification as a Lifting Supervisor from a recognized body (e.g., LOLER, OPITO, or locally accredited institutes in the Gulf).
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of practical experience in a Lifting Supervisor or similar role on major project sites, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy construction sectors.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of different crane types (mobile, tower, etc.), their capabilities, and complex lifting procedures.
- Safety Systems Knowledge: Thorough familiarity with international safety regulations and procedures (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) and local Kuwaiti standards.
- Personal Skills: Strong leadership and supervisory skills, the ability to make decisive judgments under pressure, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Language: Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and communication is essential. Knowledge of Arabic will be a distinct advantage.
