Superiority of Modern Services LLC (SOMS) is currently inviting applications for the position of Metrological Expert Engineer at its headquarters in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. This role presents a significant opportunity for experienced professionals in atmospheric sciences and related engineering fields to join a leading provider of modern solutions and services.

Job Description

The Metrological Expert Engineer will be responsible for a range of specialized technical and analytical tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Collecting and analyzing climatic and meteorological data from various sources and monitoring stations.
  • Operating and maintaining advanced meteorological measurement instruments and equipment (e.g., anemometers, barometers, hygrometers, thermometers).
  • Developing predictive models and analyzing climate trends to support planning for the company's or its clients' projects.
  • Preparing accurate technical reports and weather forecasts to meet the requirements of infrastructure, energy, or other sectors served by the company.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and calibration of all measurement equipment in accordance with international standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
  • Providing technical consultancy to the team and management regarding the potential impacts of weather conditions on operations.
  • Research and Development in measurement methodologies and improving the accuracy of models used.
  • Collaborating with government entities or partners as needed regarding meteorological data and analyses.

Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Qualification: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electromechanical, Civil, Environmental) or in Atmospheric Sciences (Meteorology) or a closely related field. A Master's or Ph.D. degree will be a strong added advantage.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of practical experience in applied meteorology, measurement instrumentation engineering, or a similar role. Experience in an industrial or consulting environment is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of meteorological theories and measurement methodologies.
    • Hands-on experience operating specialized atmospheric modeling and analysis software (e.g., WRF, or similar data analysis tools).
    • Strong knowledge of international calibration standards and quality assurance procedures.
    • Excellent data analysis and reporting skills using tools like Python, MATLAB, or R.
  • Personal Skills: High accuracy, strong analytical and deductive skills, ability to work independently and in a team, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Language: Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and speaking is essential. Knowledge of Arabic will be an additional advantage.
