Purchase Manager / Buyer Job for Supermarket in Oman

A leading supermarket in the Sultanate of Oman is seeking to fill the position of Purchase Manager / Buyer for its branches located in the Ad Dakhiliyah, Salalah, and Sohar regions. This role presents an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals in supply and procurement within the Sultanate's fast-growing food retail sector.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will bear the primary responsibility for managing and executing the purchasing and supply operations for the supermarket chain. They will work within a dynamic team aimed at ensuring product availability, optimizing costs, and building strategic relationships with suppliers. Key expected responsibilities include:

  • Procurement Strategy Planning & Execution: Develop and implement purchasing plans that meet the needs of the branches in the specified regions (Ad Dakhiliyah, Salalah, Sohar), considering seasonal factors and demand.
  • Supply Chain Management: Ensure a smooth and consistent flow of goods from suppliers to the supermarket's warehouses and branches, while monitoring inventory levels to prevent stockouts or overstocking.
  • Supplier Sourcing & Negotiation: Identify and evaluate new local and international suppliers, conducting effective negotiations on prices, delivery terms, and supply agreements to achieve the best value for the company.
  • Quality and Cost Control: Ensure purchased products meet required quality standards, monitor market price fluctuations, and work on improving profit margins through smart buying.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize inventory and procurement management systems to analyze sales and stock data, prepare periodic reports on procurement performance, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Internal Coordination: Work closely with sales, marketing, warehouse, and finance departments to ensure operational integration and harmony.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all company internal policies and procedures, as well as applicable health and commercial regulations in Oman.

Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this opportunity, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: Proven work experience of at least 3 to 5 years in procurement or supply, with a strong preference for those with prior experience in the retail, supermarket, or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of the procurement cycle, supply chain management, and inventory management principles. Knowledge of local and international supplier markets is a distinct advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
    • Excellent analytical ability and data-driven decision-making.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and tackle logistical challenges.
    • Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for procurement.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain & Logistics, or any related field.
  • Personal Attributes: High integrity, reliability, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
