Requirements

Must be an African national ordinarily resident in Africa
Must be an international fee payer
Must be a new admission for the 2026/27 academic year
Masters: Hold or expect a first-class honours degree or international equivalent (2:1 accepted but not preferred)
PhD: Hold or expect a masters degree with distinction or international equivalent (merit accepted but not preferred)
Must have applied to a SOAS program and secure an unconditional offer before the selection panel meets
Must meet the English language requirements for the chosen program
Program must be full-time one-year (Masters) or full-time MPhil/PhD
Not eligible: part-time courses, two-year masters, or pre-sessional courses

Completed academic application to a SOAS program
Official academic certificates and transcripts (Bachelors + Masters for PhD applicants)
Official transcripts for all previous studies
Personal Statement explaining academic goals and link to sustainable development in Africa
