Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Pediatric Psychologist will be responsible for providing a comprehensive range of assessment, diagnostic, and psychotherapeutic services to young patients. They will work within a multidisciplinary team framework that includes pediatricians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and integrated care.

Key expected responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive psychological assessments of children and adolescents to diagnose emotional, behavioral, developmental, and mental health disorders.
  • Designing and implementing evidence-based, age-appropriate individual treatment plans, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other therapeutic modalities.
  • Providing individual and group psychotherapy sessions for children and their families to support them in overcoming challenges.
  • Working on interventions to support children dealing with anxiety, depression, stress disorders, adjustment difficulties, behavioral problems, or trauma.
  • Collaborating closely with pediatricians and schools (where applicable) to coordinate care and ensure a unified approach to supporting the child.
  • Offering consultation and guidance to parents and families on managing their child's psychological conditions and fostering a supportive home environment.
  • Accurately documenting all sessions, assessments, and progress notes in the patient's medical records in accordance with hospital standards and policies.
  • Adhering to the highest standards of professional ethics and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • A Doctorate (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, with a specialization or proven experience in Child and Adolescent Psychology.
  • A valid license to practice psychology from the relevant health authorities in the State of Kuwait, or eligibility to obtain one. This is a fundamental requirement.
  • Proven practical experience of at least 3-5 years in direct work with children and adolescents in a clinical setting (hospital, specialized clinic, mental health center).
  • In-depth knowledge of child psychosocial developmental stages, common childhood disorders, and age-appropriate psychological assessment and treatment methods.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with young patients and their families.
  • Ability to work effectively within an integrated medical team.
  • Proficiency in Arabic (the native language for the vast majority of patients) and English (the language for medical documentation and work in an international medical environment).

The following qualifications will be a distinct advantage:

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary hospitals or medical centers in the Gulf region.
  • Advanced training certifications in specific child therapy modalities (e.g., specialized play therapy, art therapy).
