Engineering Specialist (Maritime – Electrical & Electronic Systems) in Qatar

Job Description
The successful candidate will occupy a pivotal role within the maritime engineering team. They will be the primary authority responsible for ensuring the optimal operation, periodic maintenance, and technical development of complex electrical and electronic systems onboard vessels, offshore platforms, or maritime facilities managed or serviced by the company.
Key responsibilities are expected to include:
- Maintenance & Diagnostics: Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on maritime electrical and electronic systems, including power generation & distribution systems, automation control systems, and communication & navigation systems.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing complex faults within electrical circuits and electronic systems using specialized measurement tools and equipment, implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all systems comply with international maritime regulations and guidelines (such as SOLAS, and regulations from recognized maritime organizations) and stringent safety standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Preparing detailed technical reports on system status, maintenance work performed, and any modifications or upgrades. Maintaining accurate technical records.
- Technical Support & Advisory: Providing technical support and advice to operators and other technicians regarding electrical and electronic systems.
- Project Management & Development: Contributing to upgrade or development projects for existing systems, including drawing reviews, equipment selection, and overseeing installation and commissioning.
- Quality Assurance: Participating in audit and inspection processes to ensure high technical quality of systems.
Requirements & Qualifications
To qualify for this specialized role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university. A higher degree (Master's) may be an added advantage.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in maritime engineering, with a strong focus on electrical and electronic systems. Prior experience working on ships, offshore platforms, or in shipyards is considered essential.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of marine power systems (generation, distribution, control).
- Strong familiarity with automation and instrumentation control systems (PLC, SCADA).
- Understanding of marine communication and navigation systems (e.g., Radar, GPS, GMDSS).
- Knowledge of relevant marine safety systems (emergency lighting, alarm systems).
- Personal Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strict commitment to safety standards.
- Professional Certifications: Possession of recognized professional certifications in the maritime or engineering field is preferred.
- Other Requirements: Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic may be an additional advantage.
