Job Overview

The Lead Buyer will occupy a pivotal role within the procurement team, responsible for leading and executing purchasing strategies to ensure the organization acquires required materials and services at the best possible value while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability. This role will work closely with various internal departments to understand requirements and develop proactive purchasing plans.

Key Expected Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the end-to-end procurement process, from need identification to purchase order issuance and material receipt.
  • Conduct market research to identify and evaluate potential suppliers.
  • Lead contract negotiations with suppliers to secure optimal commercial terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment conditions.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with key suppliers, building a reliable network of partners.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure their adherence to agreed terms and quality standards.
  • Analyze market trends and material costs to provide recommendations for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare regular reports and analyses on procurement activity and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with company internal policies and procedures, as well as relevant local regulations in Qatar.
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced procurement team members (if within the team structure).
  • Manage supply chain risks and develop contingency plans for mitigation.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced or professional certifications (e.g., CIPS) are a strong advantage.
  • Proven minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement or purchasing, with some portion in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Strong experience in an industrial, construction, or major projects environment (a significant advantage in the Qatari market).
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic procurement and supply chain management principles.
  • Exceptional negotiation and persuasion skills with a proven track record of achieving cost savings.
  • Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in using procurement software/ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels internally and with external suppliers.
  • Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple procurements and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is a strong additional advantage in the Qatari job market.
