Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be the technical authority for all mechanical aspects of the firm's projects. The core responsibilities include:
- Technical Leadership: Leading and guiding the mechanical engineering team, including engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Project Management: Planning, organizing, and controlling all stages of the mechanical project, from initial design to final handover, while adhering to strict timelines and budgets.
- Design and Review: Developing and designing mechanical systems (such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, etc.) in compliance with local and international codes and specifications. This also involves reviewing and evaluating designs from vendors and contractors.
- Quality Assurance: Overseeing quality assurance and control for all mechanical works, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and standard regulations.
- Coordination: Effectively coordinating with other engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, architectural) as well as with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth workflow.
- Reporting: Preparing periodic technical reports, progress presentations, and project handover documents.
- Problem-Solving: Identifying technical issues that may arise during implementation and proposing effective, practical solutions.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
To qualify for this leadership role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. A Master's degree or advanced professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CEng) is a strong advantage.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 8 to 12 years of practical experience in mechanical engineering, with proven experience of at least 3 to 5 years in a lead or supervisory role (Lead Engineer or Project Manager) within construction and development projects.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international design codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, IPC) and local standards in Oman and the Gulf region.
- Software Skills: Strong proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software like AutoCAD, and analysis tools such as Revit MEP or equivalent.
- Soft Skills: Excellent leadership and management skills, with effective communication abilities (both verbal and written) in English. Arabic language skills are a plus. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Location: Applicants must be resident in Oman or ready to relocate immediately.
