Job Description
The appointed Legal Counsel will play a central role in providing comprehensive legal support and advisory services to the company. They will operate within a complex legal framework inherent to exploration and production operations in the oil and gas sector. The key responsibilities expected for this role include:
- Providing legal advice on a wide range of operational and commercial matters to ensure the company's compliance with relevant local and international laws and regulations.
- Reviewing, drafting, and analyzing various contracts and agreements, including contractor agreements, service agreements, commercial contracts, and joint venture agreements.
- Managing legal risks and providing proactive guidance to avoid or mitigate disputes.
- Working closely with other departments within the company, such as Finance, Procurement, and Operations, to provide integrated legal support.
- Representing the company's interests in negotiating deals and agreements with external parties.
- Staying abreast of legislative and regulatory developments in Oman and the region that may impact the company's business.
- Preparing relevant legal reports and correspondence.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this important role at PDO, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university. A Master of Laws (LLM) or other advanced legal qualification will be a strong added advantage.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of practical legal experience, with preference given to experience in the oil & gas, energy sector, or within large corporate environments with complex international operations.
- Legal Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of commercial law, contract law, and corporate law. Knowledge of Omani oil and gas laws is considered an exceptional advantage.
- Skills: Excellent analytical and advisory skills with the ability to interpret complex legislation and apply it to real-world business scenarios.
- Communication Skills: Superior written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English, with proficiency in drafting legal documents accurately.
- Personal Attributes: High integrity, ability to work under pressure, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
