Mechanical Superintendent (Rotating / Comm. / Steel Structural) – Al Khor, Qatar
A leading and confidential company in the State of Qatar is seeking applications for the position of Mechanical Superintendent with specialization in Rotating Equipment, Communications, and Steel Structural works. Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The successful Mechanical Superintendent will be stationed at a major industrial project site, responsible for the direct supervision of all mechanical works related to the three core areas of the role. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising Rotating Equipment Works: Planning, coordinating, and supervising the installation, alignment, testing, and commissioning of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors on the project site.
- Supervising Communications & Systems Works: Overseeing the mechanical installation and integration of communications systems and related systems within industrial structures and facilities.
- Supervising Steel Structural Works: Managing and supervising the erection, lifting, and assembly of structural and miscellaneous steel works for the project, ensuring full compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Team Management: Leading and directing teams of technicians and foremen on-site, assigning tasks, and ensuring work is carried out according to schedule and to the highest quality standards.
- Coordination & Quality Assurance: Working closely with design engineers, subcontractors, and quality control/safety teams to ensure compliance with all technical specifications, method statements, and stringent safety regulations in Qatar.
- Planning & Reporting: Contributing to weekly and monthly work plans, preparing daily progress reports on work status, equipment condition, and any challenges or hazards, and presenting them to senior management.
- Safety First: Ensuring a safe working environment for all site personnel by enforcing strict safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and participating in safety meetings.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be eligible for this site-based leadership role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Equivalent extensive and proven practical experience in a similar field may be considered.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years of hands-on field supervision experience in mechanical works for major industrial or construction projects (e.g., Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Plants, or Heavy Industrial Facilities).
- Specialized Technical Experience: Deep, hands-on, and proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Installation and maintenance of rotating equipment.
- Steel structural and miscellaneous metal works.
- Mechanical integration of communications and control systems.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead a diverse team in a multicultural work environment, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of international quality and safety standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA) and local Qatari practices.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel) and basic planning software.
- Language: Fluency in English for written and verbal communication. Knowledge of Arabic is a distinct advantage.
