Process Safety Engineer (Mining & Processing Plant) - Wood

Wood, a global leader in engineering, consulting, and project management services across energy, environment, and infrastructure sectors, is seeking to hire a Process Safety Engineer to join their team working on major Mining and Processing Plant projects in Saudi Arabia.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The appointed Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the design and operation of mining and processing facilities adhere to the highest global safety standards. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Process Risk Management: Conducting and developing Process Hazard Analysis studies such as HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), and qualitative/quantitative risk assessments for mining and processing plants.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensuring engineering designs and operational processes comply with local (e.g., Saudi Civil Defense regulations) and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, API, IEC).
  • Engineering Design Review: Reviewing basic and detailed engineering documents and drawings (P&IDs, Plot Plans, Firefighting systems) from a process safety perspective.
  • Mitigation Strategy Development: Identifying engineering and procedural recommendations to mitigate identified risks and ensuring their implementation.
  • Technical Documentation: Preparing and updating key process safety documentation such as Process Safety Files, Risk Assessment reports, and Safe Work Procedures.
  • Operational Support: Providing technical support to operations and maintenance teams regarding process safety issues and participating in incident investigations.
  • Training & Awareness: Contributing to training and awareness programs for personnel on process safety principles and requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in Process Safety, with proven experience in Mining, Mineral Processing, Oil & Gas, or Petrochemicals projects. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience in mining and processing facilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of process safety principles and applications, HAZOP studies, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and risk management.
  • Professional Certifications: Professional certifications such as CFSP (Certified Functional Safety Professional) or CEng (Chartered Engineer) are a strong advantage.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and reporting skills (written and presentation), ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team, and strong analytical skills.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is an additional advantage.
