YOKOGAWA MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA B.S.C. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer to join its team in Muharraq, Bahrain. Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The Senior APC Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Advanced Process Control team. The core focus will be on the design, implementation, and optimization of Advanced Process Control (APC) systems for the company's clients across the region. Key responsibilities include:

  • APC System Analysis & Design: Analyzing client industrial processes and designing advanced control strategies to enhance efficiency, stability, and yield.
  • Implementation & Configuration: Installing and configuring APC software and systems (such as YOKOGAWA platforms or other certified platforms) at client sites.
  • Modeling & Testing: Developing mathematical process models and conducting rigorous testing to ensure the efficacy of control systems before final commissioning.
  • DCS Integration: Ensuring seamless integration of APC systems with clients' existing Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Technical Support & Training: Providing advanced post-commissioning technical support and training client/company engineers on the management and use of APC systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitoring the performance of deployed systems and proposing continuous improvements to meet operational and economic performance targets.
  • Technical Documentation: Preparing detailed reports, and design, operational, and maintenance documentation for APC systems.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To qualify for this advanced technical role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Control & Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field. A Master's degree will be a distinct advantage.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in designing and implementing Advanced Process Control (APC) systems. Direct experience with YOKOGAWA platforms (e.g., Exapilot, PACE) or other major APC platforms (e.g., Aspen DMC3, Honeywell Profit) is a significant competitive advantage.
  • Industry Experience: Strong background working within heavy industries, specifically oil & gas, refining, and petrochemicals. Deep understanding of unit operations such as distillation, hydrotreating, and reactors.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency in programming and modeling languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R).
    • In-depth knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and basic/advanced control principles.
    • Excellent understanding of dynamic process modeling and system identification techniques.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent complex problem-solving abilities, strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and cross-functional team interaction. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a willingness to travel within the region as project requirements demand.
