Chemical Engineer (Power Plant) - Qatar

Job Description and Responsibilities
The appointed Chemical Engineer will be an integral part of the operations and maintenance team at the power generation facility. The focus will be on ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance in chemical processes related to power generation. Key expected responsibilities include:
- Process Monitoring & Analysis: Overseeing chemical processes within the plant, including water treatment (feedwater, boiler water, cooling water), fuel quality monitoring, and emissions control systems management.
- Quality & Safety Assurance: Conducting routine chemical tests and analyses to ensure systems operate within required specifications. Implementing and managing stringent chemical safety programs to prevent incidents.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnosing operational issues related to chemistry and proposing technical solutions. Working closely with maintenance teams to execute necessary repairs and modifications to chemical equipment.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensuring plant operations comply with local and international environmental regulations and standards, with a focus on emissions reduction and responsible chemical waste management.
- Performance Optimization: Proposing and implementing initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reduce chemical consumption, and lower costs while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Preparing regular technical reports on the performance of chemical systems, deviations, and corrective actions taken.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
- Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 3 to 5 years in a Chemical Engineer role, with a strong preference for direct experience in electrical power generation plants or similar heavy industries (e.g., refining, petrochemicals).
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of chemical processes in power plants, including water-steam cycle, water treatment, combustion chemistry, and emissions monitoring.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in using engineering software and technical writing. Attention to detail and a strict commitment to safety procedures.
- Personal Attributes: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in a shift-work environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage.
