Electrical & Instrument Supervisor - Substation Projects
A leading company in industrial construction and energy within the Sultanate of Oman is seeking to hire an Electrical & Instrument Supervisor (E&I Supervisor) for critical electrical substation projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring the technical execution of works according to the highest standards of quality, safety, and project schedule.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The supervisor will be directly responsible for overseeing all activities related to Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control (E&I) works on the substation project site. Key responsibilities include:
- Technical Supervision: Supervising technical work teams during the installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning phases of high, medium, and low-voltage systems within the substation.
- Quality & Compliance Assurance: Ensuring all executed works comply with engineering design specifications, local and international regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC standards), contract requirements, and the highest Occupational Health and Safety (HSE) standards.
- Planning & Execution: Assisting in planning daily and weekly activity schedules, allocating tasks to electrical and instrumentation technicians, and ensuring the availability of necessary materials and equipment.
- Inspection & Testing: Overseeing pre-installation inspections, functional performance tests, insulation resistance tests, and other commissioning tests for equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, and control/SCADA/PLC systems.
- Coordination: Working closely with project engineers, consultant engineers, subcontractors, and the QA/QC and HSE teams to coordinate operations and resolve any technical issues that arise on-site.
- Training & Guidance: Guiding and training technicians, ensuring their adherence to safe work procedures and technical standards.
- Documentation: Reviewing and maintaining daily work reports, test reports, as-built drawings, and other relevant technical documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in supervising Electrical and Instrumentation works, with a strong focus on Electrical Substation Projects or major industrial projects (e.g., power plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities).
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems, switchgear, transformers, and grounding/lightning protection systems.
- Proven experience with instrumentation systems, transmitters, control valves, and PLC-based control systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation drawings and schematics (P&IDs, Single Line Diagrams).
- Knowledge of strict safety procedures for high-voltage work sites (Permit to Work, Lockout-Tagout).
- Personal Skills: Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, problem-solving ability under pressure, high attention to detail, and effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Professional Certifications: Professional certifications in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) or project management are a strong advantage.
Work Location & Conditions
- Location: Sultanate of Oman.
- Nature of Work: Full-time, primarily site-based role. The position may require flexible hours or work during holidays as per project schedule demands.
