Job Description and Responsibilities

The Civil Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for a range of vital tasks focused on the financial and commercial aspects of construction projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Cost Preparation and Estimation: Preparing accurate initial and detailed cost estimates for civil and construction projects based on drawings and technical specifications.
  • Quantity Measurement: Conducting precise measurements of the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for project execution by studying drawings and structural details.
  • Tender Documentation: Preparing and analyzing tender documents and bids, including Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and contract documents.
  • Cost Management: Monitoring and tracking the actual project costs against the approved budget, and preparing periodic reports on variances and corrective recommendations.
  • Valuation of Claims and Variations: Assessing contractors' claims and variation orders, and negotiating them to safeguard the project's financial interests.
  • Team Coordination: Working closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure integration between technical and financial aspects.
  • Final Account: Participating in the preparation of final account settlements upon project completion.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be eligible for this important career opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Professional Certification: Professional certifications in quantity surveying (such as from the Chartered Institute of Building - CIOB or similar) are preferred.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of practical experience in a similar role (Quantity Surveyor) within the construction sector in the Gulf region, preferably in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with quantity measurement methods (e.g., International Method of Measurement) and specialized cost and measurement software (such as CostX, Bluebeam, or relevant BIM software).
  • Legal Knowledge: A good understanding of common construction contract conditions (e.g., FIDIC).
  • Personal Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, accuracy and attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure and face challenges, and strong analytical skills.
