Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Senior Electrical Designer will be based at Wood's office in Doha and will be responsible for delivering high-quality, accurate electrical design solutions for complex energy projects. The core responsibilities of this role include:

• Developing and preparing comprehensive electrical design drawings and details (such as equipment layout drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable and routing layouts) using industry-standard Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
• Working closely with electrical engineers and senior designers to understand technical requirements and translate engineering specifications into clear, executable plans.
• Reviewing and analyzing drawings and documents from other disciplines (mechanical, civil, instrumentation & controls) to ensure overall integration, coordination, and clash avoidance.
• Participating in Building Information Modeling (BIM) reviews and contributing to the development of 3D project models.
• Ensuring compliance with company standards, client specifications, relevant international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE), and local Qatari regulations in all design work.
• Providing technical support throughout various project phases, from conceptual design to final delivery and construction.
• Supervising and mentoring less experienced designers, ensuring the quality and productivity of the design team are maintained.
• Preparing progress reports and participating in project coordination meetings.

Qualifications and Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this critical role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Work Experience: Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in electrical design, with a strong focus on oil & gas, energy, or industrial plant projects. Previous experience in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar, is a significant advantage.
• Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in Computer-Aided Design software, specifically AutoCAD and MicroStation. Knowledge of SP3D (SmartPlant 3D) or AVEVA Everything3D is a strong competitive advantage.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical power systems, MV & LV distribution, lighting systems, grounding, and lightning protection systems.
  • Solid knowledge of international electrical codes and standards.
• Personal Skills:
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English (mandatory). Knowledge of Arabic is beneficial.
