Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The ICSS Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the critical technical aspects during the final stages of engineering projects, ensuring all control and safety systems function according to design specifications and the highest standards of quality and safety. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning & Supervision: Developing detailed commissioning procedures for ICSS systems and supervising their execution during the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up phases of the project.
- Testing & Commissioning: Leading and executing functional testing and commissioning activities for Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and other integrated subsystems.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues that may arise with instrumentation and control systems during pre-commissioning and commissioning phases.
- Quality & Compliance Assurance: Ensuring all commissioning and testing activities are fully compliant with industry standards (e.g., IEC 61511), client specifications, and the company's stringent safety procedures.
- Coordination & Teamwork: Working closely with engineering teams, subcontractors, and end-operators (client) to ensure a smooth handover of the project from construction to full operation.
- Documentation: Preparing accurate technical reports and documenting all commissioning procedures, test results, and handing over documentation to relevant stakeholders.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this specialized technical role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in commissioning and testing ICSS systems, with a strong focus on oil & gas or energy projects. Experience in offshore projects is a significant advantage.
- Technical Expertise:
- In-depth understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) from vendors such as Yokogawa, Honeywell, or Siemens.
- Proven experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety standards.
- Strong knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and industrial communication protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, logic diagrams).
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written), the ability to work under pressure in a multicultural environment, and leadership skills to guide small technical teams during commissioning phases.
- Other Requirements: Must be eligible to work in Qatar. Fluency in English is mandatory.
