Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The successful consultant will assume a leadership role within the Ophthalmology Department, bearing responsibility for a range of critical duties, including:

  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Providing specialized medical consultations, diagnosing, and treating a wide spectrum of eye diseases and disorders for patients of all age groups.
  • Surgical Procedures: Performing precise and advanced ophthalmic surgeries, such as cataract surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, vitreoretinal procedures, refractive surgeries, and more.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervising the medical and nursing team within the clinic or department, offering guidance and support to residents and medical students.
  • Quality Assurance: Contributing to the development of medical protocols and ensuring adherence to the highest locally and internationally accredited standards of quality and safety in service delivery.
  • Education and Research: Participating in continuous medical education activities within the institution and contributing to clinical research and studies to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with other medical departments (e.g., Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology) to provide holistic care for patients with systemic diseases affecting the eye.

Essential Requirements and Qualifications

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Qualification: A Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree, followed by a specialization degree (Diploma, Master's, or Doctorate) in Ophthalmology from a recognized university.
  2. Professional Certification: It is mandatory to hold a Board Certification or equivalent Fellowship in Ophthalmology from an accredited body (e.g., Arab Board, Saudi Board, FRCOphth, American Board, or equivalent).
  3. Licensing: The applicant must possess a valid medical practice license from their home country. The ability to obtain a license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is a fundamental prerequisite for employment.
  4. Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-specialization practical experience in the field of Ophthalmology, with preference given to experience in reputable medical centers or teaching hospitals.
  5. Personal Skills: Excellent communication and patient/colleague relationship management skills, the ability to work within a team, and a commitment to medical ethics.
  6. Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is essential. Proficiency in Arabic is a strong advantage.
