Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The successful consultant will assume a leadership role within the Emergency Department, responsible for delivering the highest standard of urgent medical care. Core responsibilities include:
- Clinical Leadership: Providing specialist consultation, diagnosis, and management for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with critical, acute, and life-threatening conditions.
- Supervision and Training: Supervising residents, interns, and emergency medicine technicians, offering clinical and professional guidance to ensure quality of practice and foster development.
- Rapid Decision-Making: Assessing complex cases and making immediate, accurate treatment decisions in a high-pressure environment.
- Development and Quality: Contributing to the development and refinement of clinical protocols and procedures within the department. Participating in quality improvement and audit activities.
- Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Collaborating closely with other departments such as Surgery, Internal Medicine, ICU, and Radiology to coordinate comprehensive patient care pathways.
- Standards Compliance: Ensuring full compliance with all applicable local and international healthcare accreditation standards upheld by the facility.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognized university.
- Specialist Certification: Board Certification / Fellowship in Emergency Medicine from a globally recognized body (e.g., Arab, American, British, Canadian Board or equivalent).
- Licensing: Must hold a valid medical license to practice in your current country, with eligibility to obtain a license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-fellowship experience, with a proven track record in managing a busy Emergency Department.
- Personal Skills: Excellent leadership, supervisory, and mentoring abilities. The capacity to work effectively under pressure, coupled with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of the Arabic language is a significant advantage.
