Job Description

The Demi Chef will be stationed in the Italian cuisine section (which could be Pastry, Pasta & Pizza, or Hot Appetizers, depending on the specialty), reporting directly to the Chef de Partie or the Executive Chef. Key responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and presentation of a wide array of authentic Italian dishes, while ensuring strict adherence to the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and grow within a structured kitchen hierarchy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily preparation of mise-en-place according to established Italian recipes.
  • Participate in preparing and presenting both traditional and contemporary Italian dishes.
  • Ensure consistent quality in flavor, texture, and presentation for every plate.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work station and equipment in line with stringent hygiene and health standards (HACCP).
  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels and reporting needs to the supervising chef.
  • Collaborate effectively with other kitchen team members to ensure smooth service operations.
  • Adhere to all kitchen safety policies and professional procedures.

Requirements and Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

  • Proven practical experience of at least 1-2 years in a similar role (Demi Chef or Commis) within a professional Italian kitchen, preferably in a hotel or fine-dining restaurant.
  • In-depth knowledge of Italian cooking techniques, traditional ingredients, and classic recipes.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
