This position serves as the cornerstone of the company's administrative structure, bearing full responsibility for all legal and operational risk management aspects within the dynamic and fast-paced environment of the oil and gas sector.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The General Counsel will serve as the company's chief legal officer, reporting directly to senior management. The core responsibilities of this leadership role include:

• Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing the company's legal strategy in alignment with its business objectives in Qatar and the wider region.
• Comprehensive Legal Oversight: Providing advice and oversight on all legal matters including contracts (supply, services, joint ventures), regulatory compliance, corporate affairs, and employment issues.
• Contract Management: Leading the drafting, review, and negotiation of complex, high-value contracts with clients, contractors, and partners in the energy sector, ensuring the protection of the company's interests.
• Compliance & Governance: Ensuring the company's full compliance with all local laws and regulations in the State of Qatar, as well as relevant international laws and standards governing oil and gas operations.
• Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks associated with the company's operations and projects.
• Team Management: Leading and developing the company's in-house legal team (if applicable), or closely coordinating with appointed external law firms.
• Litigation & Dispute Management: Overseeing any disputes or litigation proceedings, representing the company as needed in collaboration with external counsel.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this senior role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Background: A university degree in Law (LL.B./Bachelor of Laws) from a recognized institution. An advanced legal qualification (LL.M.) or certification from a reputable institute is preferred.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of 12 to 15 years of proven legal experience, with a strong focus on the oil & gas, energy, or infrastructure sectors. This experience must include a period in a senior or semi-senior leadership role (e.g., Senior Counsel, Legal Manager).
• Geographical Experience: Deep practical experience in the GCC market, specifically within the State of Qatar. A thorough understanding of Qatar's regulatory, legal, and commercial landscape is essential.
• Legal Expertise: Extensive experience in drafting and reviewing complex oil & gas contracts, partnerships, project agreements, and sector-specific regulatory compliance.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and communicate effectively with all levels of management up to the board level.
• Personal Attributes: High integrity, sound judgment, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in a multicultural environment.
• Languages: Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Arabic is a significant advantage.
