Job Overview
The Head of Science will play a pivotal role in leading and developing the teaching of Science across the school's key stages. Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Educational & Curriculum Leadership: Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and coherent Science curriculum for the school. Ensure the curriculum aligns with the school's vision, Nord Anglia's high educational standards, and any relevant local or international accredited framework.
- Team Management & Development: Supervise the department's science teachers, providing ongoing guidance and professional support. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous professional inquiry within the team.
- Quality Assurance & Assessment: Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department. Analyze student performance data to gauge effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Ensure assessment practices are fair and clearly linked to learning objectives.
- Resource & Learning Environment Development: Oversee the management of science laboratories and educational resources, ensuring a safe, rich, and stimulating environment for scientific inquiry.
- Supporting Student Achievement: Work closely with students to promote their academic achievement and passion for science. Support and challenge students of all abilities to reach their full potential.
- Communication & Engagement: Collaborate effectively with school senior leadership, other departments, and parents to promote the science department and support the holistic progress of students.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
- Academic Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Physics, Biology). A Master's degree in the subject or in Education is highly preferred.
- Professional Certification: A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Teaching Certificate, or equivalent).
- Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience in Science (at least one core subject: Chemistry, Physics, Biology) within an international or British-curriculum school environment. Proven leadership experience as a Head of Department or Subject Coordinator for at least two years.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead and motivate a team, with excellent communication and organizational skills. Strategic vision for department development and goal achievement.
- Commitment to Development: A clear commitment to continuous professional development for both self and team members.
