Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The successful Machinist will be integrated into the shipyard team, responsible for operating and maintaining a range of precision machinery and equipment used in the manufacturing, fabrication, and repair processes for vessels and marine structures. Core expected responsibilities include:

• Operating various machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and drilling machines according to precise technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, work plans, and technical instructions.
• Selecting appropriate tools, setting up machines, and performing necessary calculations to achieve required measurements and dimensions.
• Inspecting and evaluating the quality of machined parts using precision measuring instruments like Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, and laser measuring devices.
• Performing basic periodic maintenance on machines and ensuring their cleanliness and operational safety.
• Strictly adhering to all applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures on-site, which is a top priority in large industrial environments.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: A diploma in Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from a recognized technical institute or community college.
• Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience operating mechanical machinery, with a strong preference for experience in heavy industrial environments such as shipyards, marine equipment manufacturing, or engineering industries.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong practical proficiency in operating various types of machine tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of metal material properties and machining techniques.
  • High skill level in using precision measuring tools and reading technical drawings.
  • A solid understanding of industrial safety principles.
