Job Description and Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer (Commissioning) will be an integral part of the project team, responsible for the final phase of the project lifecycle. Their focus will be on ensuring all mechanical systems operate according to design specifications and international standards before handover to the client. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and executing commissioning and testing plans for mechanical systems in ship repair/newbuilding projects or associated industrial facilities.
- Conducting final site acceptance tests (SAT) on equipment such as pumping systems, cooling & ventilation (HVAC), fuel systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Reviewing and approving commissioning-related technical documentation, including test procedures, punch lists, and handover certificates.
- Close coordination with engineering teams, contractors, and plant operators to ensure seamless testing and commissioning activities.
- Identifying and troubleshooting any issues or deficiencies that arise during the commissioning phase and proposing appropriate engineering solutions.
- Ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards throughout all commissioning stages.
- Preparing detailed reports on commissioning and test results and presenting them to management and the client.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on project commissioning and handover in an industrial environment, preferably within the marine, oil & gas, or power sectors.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical principles and systems.
- Strong understanding of relevant international commissioning standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, marine standards).
- Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics (P&IDs, Isometrics, Layouts).
- Familiarity with HSE practices in industrial sites.
- Personal Skills:
- Excellent communication and reporting skills in both Arabic and English.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex issues.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and in a multicultural environment.
- Leadership skills and the ability to guide technicians.
Work Environment and Location
The engineer will be based at the Asyad Drydock facility in Al Wusta Governorate, Oman. This region holds strategic importance for the maritime shipping industry.
