MEP Performance Testing & Commissioning Engineer

Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems form the backbone of any modern building, ensuring comfort, safety, and operational efficiency. Within the dynamic market of the United Arab Emirates, which is renowned for its mega-projects and smart developments, the role of a Performance Testing & Commissioning Engineer is critical. This professional acts as the vital link between installation completion and the building's operational handover. This position is aimed at specialized engineers dedicated to ensuring all systems perform to the highest design and safety standards before project delivery.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The engineer in charge of the testing and commissioning phase will be pivotal to project quality assurance. Core responsibilities include:

  • Developing and Executing Test Plans: Creating detailed schedules for testing all MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, fire protection, plumbing, renewable energy systems) according to technical specifications and contract documents.
  • Conducting Field Performance Tests: Executing comprehensive functional tests on equipment and systems, such as plumbing pressure tests, air balancing, lighting and power circuit tests, and fire alarm/suppression system tests.
  • **Commissioning:** Overseeing the formal system commissioning process, ensuring integrated and safe operation of all systems, and preparing all necessary reports and documentation for this process.

  • Analyzing Results and Identifying Deficiencies: Analyzing test data, identifying any deviations from standard specifications, and diagnosing performance faults or shortcomings.
  • Coordinating with Other Teams: Working closely with design teams, contractors, suppliers, and maintenance engineers to resolve any issues arising during testing and commissioning.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Verifying that all systems comply with local UAE regulations, international standards (such as ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC), and engineering best practices.
  • Preparing Technical Reports: Documenting all testing procedures and results, and issuing commissioning certificates and final handover reports.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this critical technical role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in MEP system testing and commissioning, with a proven track record on large-scale building projects (residential, commercial, hospitals, hotels) in the Gulf region, preferably with specific experience in the UAE.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of HVAC principles, medium/low voltage electrical systems, fire protection systems, and plumbing/drainage systems.
  • Skills: Excellent analytical skills for technical data, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Personal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various stakeholders. Ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines. Leadership skills to manage on-site testing procedures.
  • Professional Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Commissioning Engineer (Cx) or safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH) are a significant advantage.

Work Environment & Location

The work environment is dynamic, split between technical offices and active construction sites across the United Arab Emirates. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on application, deep technical knowledge, and find satisfaction in quality assurance for projects that will serve the community for years to come.

How to Apply

Applications for this position are processed through the Naukrigulf platform, a specialist job portal for the Gulf region. Interested candidates who meet the above requirements should prepare a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English. The CV should focus on detailing relevant past projects and specific testing and commissioning responsibilities undertaken. It must include clear and organized contact information, educational qualifications, and work experience.

Given the competitive nature of the engineering job market in the UAE, applicants are advised to highlight any experience with sustainable or smart building projects, as this knowledge is increasingly in high demand within the UAE's modern construction landscape.
