Motor Winding Technician - Muscat, Oman

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

The successful technician will occupy a vital role within the maintenance team, with core responsibilities focused on ensuring the optimal operation of electric motors through a range of precise technical processes. Key duties include:

• Motor Dismantling & Inspection: Performing careful disassembly of various types of electric motors (AC/DC) to diagnose the root cause of failure or damage.
• Winding & Repair Operations: Executing new winding for burnt or damaged motor coils using appropriate gauge wires and copper, adhering to original technical specifications for each motor type and size.
• Motor Testing & Balancing: Testing repaired motors using measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and megers for insulation checks, and dynamic balancing equipment to ensure performance integrity.
• Preventive Maintenance: Participating in scheduled maintenance programs for motors to prevent unexpected breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
• Diagram Interpretation: Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical drawings related to motors and control systems.
• Inventory Management: Assisting in monitoring stock levels of raw materials required for repairs, such as copper wires, insulators, and varnishes.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to occupational health and safety standards in the work environment, particularly when handling electrical equipment and tools.

Qualifications & Essential Requirements

To be a suitable candidate for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: A diploma or technical certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
• Work Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in winding and repairing electric motors in a specialized workshop or industrial setting.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in winding single-phase and three-phase motors.
  • Practical knowledge of motor types (induction, synchronous, DC).
  • Skill in using manual and semi-automatic winding tools and machines.
  • Strong fault diagnosis and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of electrical insulation standards and cooling systems.
• Personal Skills: Accuracy and attention to detail, reliability, ability to work independently or as part of a team, good communication skills.
• Other Requirements: The role may require the ability to lift moderate weights and stand for extended periods.
