Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The NOC Engineer will be primarily responsible for the continuous monitoring of network infrastructure performance and associated systems. The main responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and Early Alerting: Monitoring the performance of networks, servers, and applications using specialized tools, and responding promptly to alarms and alerts indicating potential failures or performance degradation.
- Fault Diagnosis and Resolution: Analyzing the root causes of technical failures and executing rapid recovery actions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This involves collaboration with other engineering teams such as the network team, systems team, and cybersecurity team.
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately documenting all incidents and actions taken in a Ticketing System. Preparing periodic reports on system performance, outages, uptime, and trend analysis to prevent recurring issues.
- Level 1 & 2 Technical Support: Providing basic and advanced technical support for network and connectivity-related issues, acting as the liaison between end-users and specialized engineering teams.
- Scheduled Maintenance: Assisting in the execution of scheduled maintenance activities during off-peak hours for system updates or upgrades, while ensuring minimal impact on operational services.
- Adherence to Service Standards: Ensuring compliance with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with clients or internal departments.
Required Qualifications and Skills
To qualify for this role, you should possess the following experience and skills:
- Academic Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
- Practical Experience: Proven work experience of 2 to 5 years in a similar role as a NOC Engineer, Network Support Technician, or in IT operations management.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF) and network architecture.
- Experience with network hardware from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, HP).
- Knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux).
- Familiarity with monitoring concepts and tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, PRTG).
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot under pressure.
- Ability to work in shift rotations, including public holidays.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team and collaborate with multiple departments.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities across multiple tasks.
