Job Description
The Senior Electrical Technician will be placed within the Commissioning department, primarily responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe commissioning of electrical systems and equipment according to the highest technical standards. The commissioning phase is a critical stage in any engineering project, where all systems are tested and prepared for actual operation, requiring high precision and deep technical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and execute commissioning, start-up, and functional testing procedures for electrical systems in new or modified projects.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and installation drawings.
- Conduct pre-commissioning checks on electrical equipment such as transformers, generators, switchgear, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and rectify technical faults in electrical systems during the commissioning phase.
- Coordinate work with design engineers, contractors, and operations teams to ensure alignment among all parties.
- Prepare daily technical reports and document all commissioning procedures, tests, and results.
- Strictly adhere to all applicable Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) procedures of the company and the State of Qatar.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced technicians.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for this advanced technical role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institute or college.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience in the commissioning of electrical systems, preferably in industrial or major construction project environments (e.g., power plants, factories, oil & gas facilities, or large commercial projects).
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems.
- Experience in testing and calibrating electrical protection relays.
- Proficiency in using electrical measurement and testing instruments.
- A strong understanding of PLC control systems and HMIs is a significant advantage.
- Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount.
- Certifications: Possession of recognized safety certificates (such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or local equivalents) is highly essential for working on project sites in Qatar.
