Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The Site Electrical Engineer will be primarily responsible for the technical and execution aspects of electrical systems on the project site. Key responsibilities include:
- On-site Supervision: Directly supervising all installation, testing, and commissioning activities for electrical systems at the construction site, including main distribution systems, lighting, power, security, and control systems.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensuring all electrical works are executed in accordance with approved technical specifications, design drawings, the highest quality standards, and local/international safety regulations and codes (e.g., National Electrical Code).
- Stakeholder Coordination: Working closely with the Project Manager, design engineers, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other project disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Architectural).
- Drawing & Specification Review: Reviewing detailed electrical schematics, material specifications, bills of quantities, and raising any observations or discrepancies prior to and during the execution phase.
- Schedule Management: Contributing to the scheduling of electrical works and monitoring progress to ensure adherence to project deadlines.
- Material & Equipment Inspection: Inspecting electrical materials and equipment delivered to the site to verify compliance with required specifications and manufacturing quality.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving any technical problems or execution challenges that arise on-site, proposing appropriate solutions.
- Documentation & Reporting: Preparing daily and weekly progress reports, status updates, and reports on any incidents or non-conformances, maintaining accurate project records and documentation.
Qualifications & Essential Requirements
To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in electrical engineering on construction project sites, with preference given to experience on large or medium-scale projects.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of electrical power systems, distribution systems, control systems, switchboards, cabling, and protection devices. Familiarity with engineering design software like AutoCAD is a distinct advantage.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work within a team, and leadership skills to manage site work crews.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Good understanding of applicable building and electrical safety regulations and codes in the Sultanate of Oman.
- Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage.
- Other: The applicant must be medically fit and able to work in a construction site environment, which may occasionally require working under varying climatic conditions.
