- Less than 6 weeks prior work experience in any EU institution, agency, or body
- Administrative traineeships: Proficiency in two EU languages — one must be English, French, or German at C1/C2, second at B2+
- Non-EU nationals: Proficiency in one language (English, French, or German) at C1/C2 level
- Translation traineeships: Ability to translate from two EU languages into your primary language
- International exposure (study or work outside EU) strengthens application
