Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Approval Officer will hold a pivotal position within the administrative team, primarily responsible for managing and facilitating the pre-authorization processes for healthcare services. The expected duties for this role include:

  • Processing Pre-authorization Requests: Receiving pre-authorization requests from patients or medical departments, reviewing them for completeness and accuracy in accordance with established policies.
  • Liaising with Insurance Companies: Direct and effective communication with representatives from various local and international insurance companies to obtain necessary approvals for medical procedures, treatments, and hospital admissions.
  • Verifying Insurance Coverage: Confirming the details and coverage of patients' health insurance plans, understanding the exclusions and conditions associated with each policy.
  • Follow-up and Updates: Proactively following up on pending requests, updating internal records and hospital systems, and informing patients and concerned departments of the authorization outcome.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring full compliance with local healthcare and insurance regulations and guidelines in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
  • Customer Service: Providing clear explanations to patients or their attendants regarding authorization procedures and insurance requirements, while maintaining the highest service standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Administration, Business Administration, Health Sciences, or a similar discipline.
  • Work Experience: Proven prior experience of 1-3 years in a similar role (Approval Officer, Health Insurance Representative, Claims Coordinator) within the healthcare sector or with an insurance company. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the UAE market.
  • Technical Skills: Excellent proficiency in computer use and Microsoft Office applications, with experience in using Hospital Information Systems (HIS) or health insurance management software.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both Arabic and English.
    • Ability to work with high accuracy under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
    • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of health insurance systems and regulations in the United Arab Emirates.
