A leading company is seeking a Mechanical Fitter specializing in Rudder and Propeller works to join its dynamic team. Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for a range of precise and critical technical tasks, primarily focused on marine mechanical systems. The core responsibilities of this position include:

  • Precision Installation: Executing precise mechanical installation of Rudder and Propeller systems on boats, vessels, or other marine structures, in strict accordance with approved technical specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Conducting routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and necessary repairs for existing rudder and propeller systems. This involves fault diagnosis, replacement of damaged components, and alignment adjustments to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
  • Reading and Interpretation: The ability to read and interpret engineering schematics, assembly drawings, and operation & maintenance manuals (O&M manuals) for marine equipment.
  • Tool and Equipment Use: The safe and skilled use of a wide array of hand tools, hydraulic tools, precision measuring instruments, and specialized equipment for marine fitting work.
  • Alignment Procedures: Performing precise alignment procedures for propellers and shafting with engines or gearboxes to ensure smooth operation and minimize vibrations.
  • Compliance with Standards: Ensuring all work is carried out to the highest quality standards, applicable local and international marine safety protocols, and customer specifications.
  • Team Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, supervisors, and other technicians in the workshop or on the project site to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule.

Qualifications and Key Requirements

For a successful application, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: A diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment/Automobile Mechanics, or a related technical field from a recognized institute or college.
  • Practical Experience: Proven hands-on experience of at least 3 to 5 years in mechanical fitting and maintenance, with a strong preference for direct experience in marine systems, specifically rudder and propeller systems. Experience in ship repair yards or shipbuilding docks is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of mechanical principles and power transmission systems.
    • Proficiency in the installation, disassembly, and fine adjustment of heavy components.
    • A good understanding of torque specifications and tightening procedures.
    • Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometers, dial gauges, and laser alignment tools.
  • Personal Skills: Accuracy and attention to detail, ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, effective communication skills, and flexibility to work in different shifts if required.
  • Other Requirements: Physical fitness to handle tasks in workshop and shipyard environments. Basic knowledge of technical English to handle international manuals and specifications is preferred.
