Job Description
The Commercial and Contract Engineer will be responsible for a range of core tasks that link engineering operations with commercial management. Key responsibilities include:
- Contract Management: Overseeing the entire contract lifecycle, from the preparation and drafting of initial documents (such as RFPs, tender documents) to negotiation, award, and day-to-day administration of contracts with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
- Commercial and Financial Analysis: Conducting cost analysis, reviewing pricing, and preparing project budget estimates. This also involves assessing financial and commercial risks associated with contracts and projects and proposing mitigation plans.
- Technical Support in Negotiations: Acting as a liaison between engineering/technical teams and sales/procurement teams during negotiations to ensure that technical specifications, timelines, and commercial terms are aligned, feasible, and appropriate.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring all parties (the company, clients, vendors) comply with the agreed terms and conditions of the contract, and tracking obligations and deliverables.

Requirements and Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this position, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or any related engineering discipline) from an accredited university. Qualifications in Business Management or Law would be an added advantage.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in a similar role (Contract Engineer, Contract Manager, Cost Engineer) within the technology, engineering, construction, or oil and gas sectors.
- Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of engineering principles and project management phases, enabling comprehension of work scope and technical complexities.
- Commercial and Legal Knowledge: Deep knowledge of contract management principles, common legal terms and conditions (e.g., FIDIC), and tender/procurement procedures.
- Personal Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills (written and verbal), with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office software (especially Excel and Word). Knowledge of project and contract management systems is an advantage.
- Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic will be a significant advantage in the Omani job market.
