Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Communication Associate will play a central role in supporting the activities of the office's Communications and Media unit. The focus will be on assisting in the implementation of the communications strategy to ensure effective message delivery and increased awareness of IOM's activities. Expected responsibilities include:

  • Media and Writing Support: Assisting in the preparation and drafting of various communication materials in both Arabic and English, including press releases, social media posts, newsletters, promotional materials, and periodic reports.
  • Digital Content Management: Contributing to updating and enriching the content of the Organization's official website and social media channels (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) with engaging and relevant content.
  • Logistical Support for Events: Providing organizational and logistical support for press conferences, workshops, media events, and public awareness campaigns organized by IOM.
  • Media Archive Management: Assisting in organizing the digital archive of media materials (photos, videos, publications) and ensuring they are easily accessible and systematically stored.
  • Media Monitoring: Tracking and analyzing local and international media coverage of migration issues and IOM's activities, preparing brief reports on findings.
  • Internal Coordination: Working closely with various program teams within the organization to gather information and success stories that can be transformed into effective communication materials.
  • Supportive Administrative Tasks: Completing administrative duties related to the communications unit, such as scheduling meetings and managing contact lists.

Qualifications and Essential Requirements

To be a suitable candidate for this opportunity at IOM, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Media Studies, Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Arts, or a similar discipline.
  • Work Experience: Proven professional experience of at least 3 years in communications, public relations, or media. Previous experience working with international or non-governmental organizations, or in a humanitarian/development context, will be a strong added advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Excellent command of both Arabic and English languages, both written and spoken (essential requirement).
    • Strong skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Practical knowledge of social media management platforms and their analytics tools.
    • Basic knowledge of simple visual design tools (e.g., Canva) or Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign) is an advantage.
    • Ability to perform basic photography and simple video/photo editing is required.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and disciplined team environment.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
    • Innovative thinking and ability to propose creative ideas for enhancing communication strategies.
    • Understanding and sensitivity to working in diverse cultural contexts and on humanitarian issues.
