Job Description
The Senior Neurophysiologist will be responsible for applying principles of neuroscience and nervous system physiology to enhance the performance and development of elite football athletes at the Academy. They will work within a multidisciplinary team including doctors, physiotherapists, and sports scientists.
Key expected responsibilities include:
- Assessing the neurological function of players, including measuring brain activity, sensory and motor responses, balance, and neuromuscular coordination.
- Designing and implementing specialized neuro-training programs aimed at improving neural processing speed, decision-making, and technique under pressure.
- Monitoring central and peripheral neural fatigue in players and linking it to training loads and competitive performance.
- Contributing to injury rehabilitation programs, particularly for head injuries and concussions, through objective neurological assessment.
- Conducting applied research to better understand how training and competition impact the nervous system of the young athlete.
- Utilizing advanced techniques such as Electroencephalography (EEG), visuomotor assessments, and reaction testing.
- Providing detailed reports and analyses to the technical and medical staff for informed decision-making regarding individual player intervention.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this specialized role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, Sports Physiology, or a related allied medical field.
- Experience: Proven practical experience of at least 5 years in applied neurophysiology, with a strong preference for experience in a sports or high-performance athletic environment. Previous experience working with elite football players is a significant advantage.
- Technical Skills: Practical proficiency in neurological assessment techniques and technologies (e.g., EEG, sensorimotor assessments, dynamic balance testing).
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data and present it in an actionable manner for technical and medical teams.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work under pressure in a competitive environment.
- Language: Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic is an additional advantage.
