Job Description and Responsibilities

The appointed Lab Technician will be based at Amman Academy, responsible for a range of vital tasks that support the science curriculum. The core responsibilities of this position include:

• Lab Preparation and Management: Preparing in advance all experiments and practical demonstrations for daily lessons in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This involves setting up required chemicals, specimens, and apparatus.
• Maintenance and Safety: Ensuring the regular cleanliness and maintenance of all laboratory areas and equipment. You will be the primary person responsible for implementing and enforcing strict laboratory safety protocols to create a safe environment for students and staff.
• Support for Students and Teachers: Providing direct technical support to teachers during practical sessions and assisting students in handling equipment safely and effectively when needed, under teacher supervision.
• Inventory Management: Monitoring stock levels of consumable chemicals and glassware, and placing timely purchase orders in consultation with the Head of the Science Department.
• Safe Storage and Disposal: Storing all chemicals and equipment correctly and safely in accordance with local and international regulations. Overseeing the safe disposal of laboratory waste according to approved procedures.
• Supporting Activities: Assisting with additional scientific activities such as science clubs, student research projects, and science fairs.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification: A diploma or university degree in a relevant field (such as Chemistry, Biology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or equivalent).
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of prior practical experience in a laboratory technician role, with a strong preference for experience in a school or academic environment. Experience in international schools or prestigious educational institutions is a significant advantage.
• Technical Skills: Strong practical knowledge of laboratory procedures, and the use and maintenance of common scientific equipment (microscopes, balances, centrifuges, etc.).
• Safety: A deep understanding of laboratory safety protocols (e.g., chemical handling, emergency procedures) and the ability to enforce them.
• Personal Skills:
  • Excellent organizational and proactive skills.
  • Ability to work with precision and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • High reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, as it is the primary language of instruction at the Academy. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
