Job Description
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the technical and planning aspects of plumbing systems in construction projects. Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Designing cold and hot water supply systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings in compliance with the highest international standards and local UAE regulations.
- Designing efficient and safe sanitary drainage (sewage) and stormwater systems.
- Preparing detailed technical drawings and layouts using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD or Revit MEP.
- Performing hydraulic calculations to determine appropriate pipe sizes, flow rates, and pressure losses to ensure system efficiency.
- Coordinating with other design teams including Architecture, Structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) to properly integrate plumbing systems into the overall project design.
- Selecting appropriate materials and equipment for systems (pipes, pumps, tanks, valves, etc.) considering quality and cost.
- Reviewing vendor and contractor proposals from a technical standpoint.
- Providing technical support during the site execution phase and resolving any design issues that may arise.
- Ensuring all designs comply with local UAE building codes, health and safety standards, and engineering best practices.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in designing plumbing and drainage systems, preferably within the context of construction projects in the Gulf region.
- Strong proficiency in engineering design software, especially the Autodesk suite (AutoCAD). Knowledge of Revit MEP is a significant advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant international standards (e.g., British Standards BS, American UPC, etc.) and local UAE regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time and work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage.
