Job Description

The Safety Officer (HSE) will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environment on the worksite. Reporting to the HSE Manager, the officer will be responsible for implementing company systems and procedures to foster a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.

Key Expected Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring & Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of the site, equipment, and operations to ensure compliance with safety policies and local/international regulations.
  • Risk Assessment: Participate in identifying and assessing potential workplace hazards and proposing appropriate control measures to mitigate them.
  • Training & Awareness: Assist in developing and delivering short training sessions and awareness programs for employees and workers on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
  • Reporting & Investigation: Prepare detailed reports on incidents or near misses and conduct initial investigations to determine root causes, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Meetings & Engagement: Attend regular safety meetings, provide updates, and promote a positive safety culture across all workforce levels on site.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities align with Wood's HSE Management System (HSE MS) standards, as well as regulations from the Saudi Arabian General Authority for Industry and Mineral Resources (MA'ADEN) and other local regulatory bodies.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this role at Wood, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial) or Environmental Science, or a Technical Institute Diploma with equivalent experience. Specialized safety qualifications are preferred.
  • Professional Certifications: Possession of recognized safety certifications such as NEBOSH IGC or its equivalent is a key advantage. Knowledge of IOSH Managing Safely is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in a similar role (Safety Officer or Supervisor) within the oil & gas, petrochemicals, industrial construction, or energy sectors.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of international HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001). Strong knowledge of Safe Work Practices and Permit-To-Work (PTW) procedures.
  • Personal Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in both Arabic and English.
    • Ability to produce accurate and clear reports.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively within a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment.
    • A strong personal commitment to safety principles.
