Senior Control System Engineer Jobs in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is experiencing sustained and growing demand for specialized engineering talent in the fields of control systems and industrial automation. According to the latest available data, there are over 43 active job opportunities for Senior Control System Engineers on LinkedIn, with new positions appearing periodically. These figures reflect the significant expansion in industrial projects, infrastructure development, and technological advancement within the nation, creating a fertile environment for experienced engineers.

Job Description

A Senior Control System Engineer plays a critical role in the design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of complex control systems. These systems act as the brain and nervous system for industrial plants and critical facilities. Your core responsibilities in this role will typically include:

  • Design & Engineering: Designing control systems using industry standards (e.g., IEC 61131-3) and software for PLCs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley), SCADA systems, and DCS. This involves developing control schematics, hardware specifications, and detailed design documentation.
  • Implementation & Programming: Writing, implementing, and testing control code (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram) to automate industrial processes in sectors such as oil & gas, water desalination, power generation, and manufacturing.
  • Integration & Testing: Leading or participating in the integration of field systems (sensors, actuators, drives) with central control systems. Conducting comprehensive Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnosing complex faults in existing systems and providing rapid, effective engineering solutions to minimize downtime. Providing technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Project Management & Coordination: Working closely with project managers, engineers from other disciplines (electrical, mechanical, process), vendors, and contractors to ensure project delivery is on budget, on schedule, and meets technical specifications.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all designs and implementations comply with local and international standards and safety regulations (e.g., ISO, IEEE, Civil Defense standards).

Requirements & Qualifications

To successfully apply for these competitive roles, employers will expect you to possess the following qualifications:

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation & Control Engineering, or a related engineering field from an accredited university. A Master's degree is a strong added advantage.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience in control systems engineering, with a focus on senior or lead roles. Experience must be within an industrial or major projects environment.
  • Advanced Technical Skills:
    • Deep proficiency in one or more major PLC platforms (Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix).
    • Strong experience with SCADA systems (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition) and DCS systems (e.g., Yokogawa, Honeywell).
    • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and networking (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP).
    • A solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and P&ID diagrams.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in English; Arabic is a significant plus. Ability to work in a team and lead technical aspects of a project. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard hours or on project sites as required.

Job Benefits

While benefits packages vary by company policy, roles at this level in the UAE typically come with a competitive compensation package that includes:

  • A attractive monthly salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive health insurance for the employee and often their family.
  • Annual flight ticket(s).
  • Annual leave.
