STP Engineer (Operation & Maintenance) in Oman
A leading and prominent company in the Sultanate of Oman is inviting applications for the position of STP Engineer (Operation & Maintenance). Job Description and Responsibilities
The engineer will be responsible for the technical and operational oversight of a Sewage Treatment Plant, ensuring its efficient and safe operation in compliance with the highest local and international standards and regulations. Key responsibilities include:
- Operations Supervision: Monitoring and operating all STP units (such as sedimentation tanks, biological reactors, filtration units, disinfection systems) to ensure effluent meets required specifications.
- Preventive & Routine Maintenance: Developing and implementing scheduled maintenance plans for all machinery and equipment (pumps, blowers, control systems, electrical and mechanical systems) to prevent breakdowns and ensure operational continuity.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnosing sudden technical faults and taking swift, effective corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure a rapid return to full operation.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Conducting routine water quality tests and analyses (e.g., BOD, COD, TSS measurements) and ensuring results comply with limits set by Omani regulatory bodies. Maintaining accurate records of operations, maintenance, and quality.
- Inventory & Procurement Management: Monitoring stock levels of chemicals and spare parts, and initiating timely purchase requests.
- Health & Safety: Ensuring the application and adherence to all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) procedures on-site, and conducting training programs for technicians and staff on these protocols.
- Development & Improvement: Proposing and implementing improvements to operational processes to increase efficiency, reduce operational costs, and lower energy consumption.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a focus on water/environmental resources), Mechanical Engineering, or any other relevant engineering field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). Experience with large-capacity plants or advanced technologies (e.g., MBR - Membrane Bioreactors) is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical treatment processes.
- Strong understanding of SCADA systems and plant-specific electrical panels.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs).
- Strong skills in mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance.
- Soft Skills: Leadership abilities and experience managing a team. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to work under pressure and solve problems. Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Other Requirements: Possession of HSE certifications (such as NEBOSH or IOSH) may be preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
