ASRY Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Co. Job Description & Key Responsibilities
The Mechanical Fitter will be assigned to the Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) department and will be responsible for executing a range of precise technical tasks. The expected core responsibilities for this role include:
- Performing installation, disassembly, assembly, alignment, and adjustment of various mechanical components and equipment onboard vessels or in workshop settings.
- Reading and interpreting engineering schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Conducting precise measurements using appropriate measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to ensure assemblies meet required technical specifications.
- Contributing to preventive and corrective maintenance tasks for shipboard mechanical systems.
- Collaborating closely with engineers and technicians from other disciplines (electrical, welding) to ensure efficient and safe completion of joint tasks.
- Strict adherence to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures, which are of paramount importance in a marine work environment.
- Using specialized hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Reporting any malfunctions or potential hazards to the direct supervisor.
Required Qualifications & Skills
To be a successful candidate for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A diploma or technical qualification (vocational training) in Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Experience: Proven previous hands-on experience in mechanical fitting, assembly, and disassembly. Experience in industrial or marine environments (factories, repair workshops, shipyards) is preferred. Experience in ship maintenance and repair will be a significant advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong grasp of fundamental mechanical principles and assembly techniques.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficiency in using a wide array of hand and power tools.
- Good understanding of measurement standards and engineering tolerances.
- Personal Skills:
- Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
