Job Description: AFC Technician

The AFC Technician will be assigned a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of Automated Fare Collection (AFC) systems. These systems form the backbone of revenue collection operations across the transport network, encompassing gates, ticket vending machines, validation systems, and associated software.

Key Expected Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on various AFC system components to prevent failures.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair technical faults efficiently and effectively in electronic gates, ticket machines, validation systems, sensors, and mechanical/electrical components.
  • Field Technical Support: Respond to support requests from station operations teams to resolve technical issues affecting passengers.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all AFC systems are functioning according to technical specifications and the high safety standards set by the company and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
  • Documentation & Reporting: Accurately log all maintenance and repair work in maintenance management systems, and report on major incidents or fault patterns.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring stock levels of spare parts and consumables used for repairs.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate closely with operations teams, other systems technicians, and supervisors to ensure seamless integration of all station systems.

Qualifications and Core Requirements

To be a successful candidate for this technical role, you are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: A diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical field from a recognized institute or college.
  • Work Experience: Proven hands-on experience of at least 2-3 years in maintaining and repairing AFC systems, electronic ticketing systems, or similar electro-mechanical systems. Experience in a public transport or railway environment is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of electrical and electronic principles.
    • Excellent electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
    • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and installation drawings.
    • Practical knowledge of using measurement tools and test equipment (e.g., multimeter, oscilloscope).
  • Soft Skills:
    • High reliability and ability to work accurately under pressure.
    • Good communication skills (Arabic and English preferred).
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
    • Strong focus on work safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Other Requirements: The role may require working in shifts (day/evening), standing for long periods, and traveling between different stations across Dubai.
