Job Description and Responsibilities
The Consultant Anaesthesiologist will hold a leadership position within the anaesthesia and critical care team, responsible for a range of vital tasks including:
- Comprehensive pre-operative assessment of patients across all age groups and health conditions.
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating safe and effective anaesthesia plans for a wide range of surgical procedures, including complex and emergency surgeries.
- Direct supervision and management of anaesthesia during surgical procedures, ensuring the physiological stability of the patient.
- Leading and managing anaesthesia-related emergencies and resuscitation in operating rooms and critical care units.
- Supervising and training residents and anaesthesia technicians, fostering knowledge transfer and professional development.
- Participating in quality and patient safety committees, contributing to the development of clinical protocols and procedures.
- Maintaining the highest standards of medical record-keeping and accurate documentation of all anaesthetic procedures.
- Working collaboratively with surgical teams and other medical departments to provide integrated, patient-centred care.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for this leadership role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognized university.
- Specialization & Certification: Board Certification or an equivalent Fellowship in Anaesthesia and Critical Care from a recognized body (e.g., Arab, British, American, Canadian Board or equivalent).
- Licensing: Must possess a valid medical license to practice from Qatari health authorities or be eligible to obtain one.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 to 10 years of post-specialization practical experience, with a proven track record in managing complex anaesthesia cases.
- Skills: Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, ability to work under pressure, and outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of the Arabic language is a strong advantage.
